Over the years the close cooperative relations between Myanmar and Laos has growth steadily. Both countries enjoyed a close and cordial relationship because of shared border, similar culture and traditions. A longstanding friendly relations and long history of exchange visits exist between Myanmar and Laos established diplomatic relations in 1955, two nations relations have always been strong and strengthen. Myanmar appointed her Ambassador to Laos in April, 1967.

Myanmar always attaches great importance to the relations with the Lao PDR. Both relations are over half a century old and happy to witness and healthy growth in friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation year after year. In the spirit of understanding and friendship, the strength of both relations comes from the traditional bonds of friendship between our two peoples as well as both shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN. The bonds of friendship between two countries have also contributed significantly to building a better and stronger ASEAN Community.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the good-neighborly friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Laos have been developing smoothly. Based on strong bonds of historical friendship and trust, two countries share convictions that the potential for development of bilateral cooperation between two close friends is ad infinitum. There are ample opportunities to promote bilateral cooperation particular in trade, investment, tourism, electricity, energy and agriculture amongst many other areas. Moreover, two countries expand the existing bilateral cooperation to mutual benefit of both peoples. The brotherly bond between Myanmar and Laos will mutually benefit not only for two countries but also for the cause of peace and prosperity in both regions.

Based on the relations between the two countries have been characterized by goodwill, cooperation and mutual accommodation, the historic visit of Prime Minister His Excellency Dr. Thongloun SISOULITH as well as the Working visit of Foreign Minister, His Excellency Mr. Saleumxay KOMMASITH to Myanmar in 2018 served a great helping hand in further strengthening our relations and built a new momentum of cooperation in areas that are beneficial for both countries.
